CREATIVE ENGINEERING
This project's goal was to create some sort of product or concept to help a world problem of our choice. We were to make some sort of presentation to present to the class, and some way to reach out to the world to put your concept or product in motion.
PROJECT HISTORY
To begin with, we needed to decide the problem we wanted to solve in the world. Originally we wanted to help with the lack of educational resources for third world countries. (basically we wanted to help with education). But, since none of us could even think of a logical way to solve that with engineering, we wanted to help women in third world countries get an education, but we ran into the same problem above. After a bit more brainstorming we realized how much of the world is illiterate. So with that i mind we began to actually brainstorm solutions.
We did not actually spend that time pondering how we could solve our decided on problem. We had three thoughts to solve it. The first one was a so called "GOD" room, a robot teacher, both of which we immediately ruled out. The third option was some type of tablet.
The design of the tablet took a bit more time to figure out. We had to make the tablet reliable, user friendly. and low in cost. We originally wanted a touch screen, but with a quick internet searched we discovered that just |
|
with the a touch screen, the price of the tablet would already be $360. (including sensors). So we ruled that option out rather quickly. With a touch screen ruled out we thought maybe a keypad. The problem with the keypad, was that there are too many variations for different languages. After a day of brain storming we thought of a D-pad. and a track pad. The D-pad would be to navigate, while the trackpad would be to draw out letters. The tablet will be powered through either electrical power or solar power, depending on the resources available to the user. We will provide a charger and earphones so that the student can have the best experience posible, without any distractions.
This tablet will cost, we estimate, to be around $180 to $270, not including the softwear needed to be made, bu twe are hoping to bring this price down, through sponsers and what not. Of course, this price was calculated through the estimate of parts from a kindle fire, so it may be a bit off for our needs, but it give you a general ballpark estimate.

Having that information, I went work designing the product on an animating prgram and came up with the imiges to you left.
After that we began on the meat of the device, the achademic plan. The program we hope to come english, spanish, chinese, french and aribic. Hoping of course to eventually expand. Our curriculum's goal is to teach children of illiterate countries to read and write, so that they may become more succsessful in life and can more easily get an education, or at least perhaps a book from which they will be able to learn form. The basics concerning this curriculum is that the student will first be assesed on what type of learner they are through an audio test. After that, the student will be taught in the maner of either audio or visual. |
From there they will begin there curriculum and be assesed after each lesson with a game that applys what they just learned to the game. After completeing each unit they will be tested and must pass with a certain percentile to continue.
CONCEPTS
We did not learn any scientific concepts to the best of my knowllege. This project was soley based on reasearch on human learning paterns and the best teaching methods as well as prices and cheap materials. So, I guess we reviewed our knowllege on adding.
adding-to join to something else so as to increase the size, number, or amount.
We also used the scientific process.
- ask questions
-do reasearch

REFLECTION
Personally, I think our group worked buetifully. We were all on task all the time, and when we wern't we had gotten everything done. The only reason we had to work outside of school, is to film the Apple spoof at my house, since my studio is...well at my house. It was rather quick to edit and the presentation was just an added bonus that I got doen very quickly. The only part I would say was a challenge was saying the lines for the Apple spoof. We actually had to cut me out of the film and only have the bloopers of me because I was so bad. But it was alot of fun over all. I think the reason we worked so will together was because we know each other and we aere comfortable working with together and are all fine calling eachother at three in the morning saying something was wronge with what we did, so I think that helped. Also the fact that we all work hard and distribute the work evenly, playin ginto our strengths and what not. For this project, I really can't find something to improve. But I'm sure ther is. You can always improve somehow, but for the time we had, I thought we did pretty darn good.
